Meredith Saidel's Team In Training Pledge Page
Dear Family and Friends,
Call me crazy, but I’ve decided to compete in an olympic distance triathlon and to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society – simultaneously. Fundraising is not something that comes easy to me. Writing this letter is more difficult than training for the event. So please know that I wouldn’t write it if I didn’t feel strongly about this cause and the ability each of us has to make a difference. My goal is to raise $4500 for LLS, and I’m asking you to help me reach this goal by making a contribution. Chances are you have been directly or indirectly affected by cancer. My immediate family has been directly affected, which was a strong motivator for me to make this commitment. My younger brother, Adam, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease at the young age of 24. I can’t begin to fathom the jolt he felt when he found out. I couldn’t understand how a young, healthy, active and talented person could be a victim of a potentially deadly disease. This story has a happy ending for which we are thankful. After chemotherapy and radiation treatment, he is in full remission. It would be great to help other families experience the same happy ending. My training and fundraising is part oft he Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society was created to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Your donation will go directly to research, patient services programs, professional education and advocacy. Here are a few reasons why the Society serves such an important role: Thank you for taking the time to read my story. I’m not the cheerleader type, but I am excited about this endeavor and the potential to reach this fundraising goal, as well as my own personal athletic goals. My short-term goal is to raise the first $3000 by February 5, 2003. Your tax-deductible contribution to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society would help me meet this goal. Remember, any amount will help (please don’t feel like anything is too small!). Your donation will help LLS increase the number of happy endings for families who are dealing with blood-related cancers. Your support of this worthy cause is sincerely appreciated. Best wishes, |
